Question Answer
What are the building blocks to a solid relationship? Trust and Rapport
How do you gain Trust? You have to always remain open and receptive to the client's feedback
What is Stretch Awareness? Sensation of gentle stretching in the body, but not pain.
Should stretching ever be painful? Stretching should never be painful for the client or for the fitness professional.
What is the Golden Rule of Stretching? Cause no pain to the client or to the fitness professional.
What are the main two branches of the Nervous System? Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS)
What is the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS)? Known as the rest and digest state Used for recovery and restorative purposes Triggered with slow and gentle movement with no pain or threat perceived
What is the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS)? Known as the fight-or-flight response Used for preparation for activity Triggered with quick and strong movement when possible pain or threat perceived
Why can having pain while stretching be detrimental to the client? Causing pain to the client is the quickest way to potentially destroy the most important component of trust. It is often very difficult to regain it. Causing pain also has the potential of injuring the client. Causing pain may shift a relaxing stretching experience to a tension-filled session. The last thing desired is to illicit the fight-or-flight response by creating a swift transition from the parasympathetic nervous system to the sympathetic nervous system.
What is Safe Space? Supportive environment of trust for the client, especially during emotional response during a stretch session.
How many sessions should a client have per week if they have specific or challenging goals? Two to three sessions per week until the goal is met.
