Computing

Oscar De-Rhune English 13 cards

Cards in this deck (13)

  1. 1What is the definition of a computer system?A basic and complete set of hardware and software combined to implement the computer performance.
  2. 2What is the purpose of the CPU?It processes data and instructions and controls the rest of the computer.
  3. 3What happens during the FDE cycle? The instructions are fetched from the RAM, decoded and executed by the CPU.
  4. 4What are the three C's?Cores, Cache and clock speed.
  5. 5What is the definition of cores? It is a processing unit within the CPU.
  6. 6What is the definition of cache? It holds frequently used data and instructions so that it is ready as soon as the CPU needs it.
  7. 7What is the definition of clock speed? The measure of how quickly a CPU can process instructions.
    3.5 clock speed=3.5 billion cycles a second.
  8. 8What are the five different components of the CPU?Arithmetic Logic Unit(ALU),
Control Unit, Registers, Buses and clock.
  9. 9What does the ALU do?It manages all arithmetic like operations and is the calculator of the CPU.
  10. 10What does the Control Unit do ?It manages instructions for all the other components and is in charge of them .It controls the other components.
  11. 11What do the registers do?They are very small ,very quick memory locations inside the CPU. It stores the different types: MAR, MDR ,CIR ,PC and Acc.
  12. 12What are the buses? They are a set of parallel wires that transport data between components. It stores data going between components.
  13. 13What does the clock do?It manages the number of cycles carried out per second. It also synchronises the other components.
