What is the internet? A network of networks
What does a user need to be able to connect to the internet? A network adapter, a router and a modem.
INFORMATION ABOUT NETWORK ADAPTERS A Network adapter allows the computer to send and receive data over the network and allows all of the computers on a network to communicate over the internet.
INFORMATION ABOUT ROUTERS This controls all of the communication on a local area network and allows all of the computers on a network to communicate over the internet.
INFORMATION ABOUT MODEMS This stands for modulator/ demodulator. This converts the communication signals used on the local network to signals that can be transmitted on the internet and vice versa. It converts digital signals to analogue ones and vice versa.
What is the difference between a local IP address and an external IP address? Local IP addresses are dynamic and can only be used on that network. Whereas external IP addresses are commonly used in routers. This is static for communicating on the internet.
