Three Major shifts that caused the shift from 2D to 3D. 1. Changed aesthetics by audiences, getting used to seeing visual effects. The SFX in movies like Independence day, Twister, Titanic, Men in Black, people LOVED! People view SFX as more visually exciting and better than 2D.
