Flashcards
Multicore and Parallel Systems
Cards in this deck (5)
- 1What is a MultiCore System? This is a single chip that involves two or more independent processing units, known as cores. These are integrated on CMP on a chip.
- 2What may they have?They may have:
2 Cores: Dual
4 Cores: Quad
8 Cores: Octa - 3What might they share? They may share the cache.
- 4What is Parallel Processing? This is the processing of program instructions by dividing the program into smaller segments, with the goal of completing the task in less time.
- 5How does this work? This works by giving each core a task, i.e. one core could retrieve the instruction followed by one core decoding, and one executing. As a result, time is saved.
