Question Answer
Converting from one metric unit to another The most common metric conversions are between mm, cm, m and km 1cm = 10mm 1m = 100cm = 1000mm 1km = 1000m = 100000cm = 1000000mm
Kilo means 1000, so 1km = 1000m centi mean 1/100th, so 1 cm = 1/100th m milli means 1/1000th, so 1mm = 1/1000th m Converting units of mass and capacity 1kg = 1000g 1l = 100cl 1g = 1000mg
Example: A packet of biscuits weighs 150g. Find the weight of 12 packets of biscuits: 1. in g 2. in kg 1. 12 x 150 = 1800, so 12 packets of biscuits weighs 1800g 2. The answer is 1.8kg Remember that 1kg = 1000g To convert from g to kg, we divide by 1000
