Blood and Lymphatic System
Flowchart content
The Blood
Blood is made out of four basic parts
White Blood Cells
Red Blood Cells
Platelets
Plasma
contains hemoglobin and carries oxygen around the body
specialized cells that destroy invading bacteria & viruses
seal broken blood vessels and form blood clots
liquid part of blood that carries material in solution.
The Lymphatic System
Lymph Nodes
Feeding Cells
... and Back Again
In the capillary, the plasma will leave the vessel and transport the dissolved nutrients to the body cells. At this point, it changes from plasma to lymph.
White Blood Cells can squeeze out of the capillaries and travel with the lymph.
Lymph nodes filter the lymph, mapping bacteria and white blood cells together.
After filtering by the lymph nodes, the lymph is returned to the blood in the veins, where it will repeat the plasma/lymph cycle again.
