Resources

Resources

1. Abiotic

   • natural resource derived from non-living things as opposed to biotic resource derived from living things.
   • Fossil Fuels
     • energy because they originate from living things
       • rival
     • Disadvantages
       • Mining this fossil fuel is also difficult and may endanger the lives of miners
       • it will take more and more energy to recover remaining supplies.
     • Adavantanges
       • provide a large amount of concentrated energy for a relatively low cost.
       • Used fuel does not disappear; it returns to the ecosystem as waste
   • Mineral resources
     • It needs more energy to be extract
       • More pure means more energy in the process
     • Irreparable damages to the earth
     • Extraction liberates more Co2 to the layers of earth which its bad for people health
     • As the economic growth increase so does the extraction
   • Water
     • exhaustible resource
     • So many things depends of this resource: Agriculture, Industry, Hydroelectricity
     • Fundamental resource for atmosphere
   • Ricardian Land
     • Location available to build and inhabit
     • Rival
   • Solar Energy
     • its necessary for the life of ecosystems
     • Is captured by chlorophyll as an important factor in photosynthesis
     • Technology is developed to absorb the sun's rays and generate energy

2. Biotic

   • Renewable Resources
     • Are an important aspect of sustainability. According to the U.S. Energy Informat
     • not all can be renewed as quickly
       • renewal different from that of animals and plants
     • humans exploit it
   • Ecosystem Service
     • mutually interdepent
     • linear behavior
     • each system member fulfills a specific fucnion
       • energy transfer
       • gas regulation
       • climate regulation
       • nutrient cycle
       • water cycle
     • composed of several factors
       • animals
       • plants
       • communities
       • individuals
   • materials on which human life depends
     • ecological services
       • resources have been exhausted, resources will not be available soon.
       • it is important that these resources be renewable
