Design Thinking

  1. What is it?

    • Is a way of working in a group that maximizes collective creativity.
    • When it happens?
      • When people who may be very bright individually, do not perform when we put them to work in a group.
    • Defines guidelines on how to work in a group
    • Methodology for creative problem solving includes empathy, imagination and experimentation.
      • Organizations can offer effective and innovative solutions.
    • What does it consist of?
      • Process of searching for innovative alternatives to solve problems.
        • Focused on how consumers think, feel and behave.
    • Companies employing this tool will make decisions based on what prospective customers really want
    • This process draws not only on analysis and reasoning, but also on logic, imagination, intuition and systems thinking.
  2. Has become one of the most widely used tools by companies around the world.

  3. Its 5 stages

    • Empathize
      • It is considered the essential phase of this methodology and deals with the discovery and understanding of the consumer's main needs.
        • This empathic process focuses on deeply analyzing the customer, understanding their true motivations and making them one's own.
          • To carry out this exploration, it is not enough to observe users; it is also necessary to interact with them.
    • Define
      • For this, a thorough evaluation of the wide variety of problems previously detected is carried out.
        • By determining the core needs, it will be possible to propose measures to reach a definitive solution.
    • Ideate
      • The team must think creatively and come up with more than one idea to solve the specific problems it has identified.
        • To carry it out in the best way, techniques to stimulate creativity and free thinking can be used.
    • Prototyping
      • It basically consists of materializing the selected ideas.
        • Digital
          • A beta website, for example
        • Physical
          • Such as a drawing or design
          • In general, these prototypes are made with low-cost materials, such as paper, cardboard or plasticine.
            • This will depend on the budget available.
    • Evaluate
      • Customers test and evaluate previously produced prototypes
        • According to the criticism of the consumers, the work team will be able to make corrections in the prototypes.
      • This empirical validation stage is crucial to discover mistakes and successes.
  4. To take into account

    • Besides creativity and intuition in the process of design thinking, teamwork also plays an important role.
    • The realization of this methodology is carried out, with professionals from different branches and requires a lot of cooperation.
    • Is iterative, flexible, and focused on collaboration between designers and users.
    • Puts an emphasis on realizing ideas based on how real users think, feel and behave.
  5. Acquired benefits

    • New knowledge
    • Develop new ways of looking at the product and its possible uses
    • Gain a much deeper understanding of users and the problems they face
