  1. The CPU is like the 'brain of the computer

  2. Fetch, decode, execute.

  3. Printing: fetches the print order, then decodes it to binary, then gets the file and prints (execute).

  4. 4 key factors that will effect a CPU's performance: cache, cores, processor type and the clock speed.

  5. A CPU can contain one or more processing units, these are called cores.

  6. Each core has a register. These hold memory, but not for long.

  7. Cache is a small amount of memory that is closer to the CPU than RAM.

  8. Cache memory is used to hold temporary memory that the CPU is likely to reuse.

  9. The more cache there is, the more memory that can be stored closer to the CPU.

  10. Each CPU core has its' own level 1 cache, but some have level 2 and level 3 cache as well.

  11. There is not a lot of space for cache: RAM has more space and is less expensive.
