CPU

  1. ALU

    • Handles all the arithmetic/ logical operations.
  2. Control Unit

    • Coordinates all the activities taking place inside the CPU.
  3. Special Purposes Register

    • Registers work with CPU to store data and access it. It can be clearly seen that registers are the essential component in computers because CPU cannot directly access data that is stored in the memory and it must be first pass through the registers.
  4. Memory address register (MAR)

    • Holds the address (location in memory) of the instructions or piece of data to be fetched or stored.
  5. Memory Data register (MDR)

    • The fetched instruction is temporarily held here.
  6. Program counter (PC)

    • holds the memory address of the next instruction to be processed.
  7. Current instruction Register (CIR)

    • holds the current instruction to be executed, which has been copied from MDR.
