• Companies lease their computer resources from cloud vendors instead of buying their own.  Its much cheaper and information can be accessed from anywhere.

   • The vendors can add or remove resources depending on your needs.  You only pay for what you use.

   • Initiated by the Department of Defense in 1969.  First network is ArpaNet.  Later CSNet, BitNet, AOL, etc.  In 1989 they could connect and form the Internet.
