Freud - Psychodynamic
  1. Freud is the founder of Psychoanalysis, (1856-1939)
    1. CG Jung, Wilhelm Reich, Melanie Klein and many others followed Freud and his theories.
      1. Approaches which were put forward by Freud include transactional analysis and gestalt therapy.
        1. Freud's Perspective Includes:
          1. Our unconscious feeling direct the way we behave, we do not always know our feelings therefore we do not always know why we behave as we do in a particular situation.
            1. We are deeply influenced by our earliest childhood experiences, for example what we believe and how we feel as adults.
              1. Individuals go through psychosexual stages of development, e.g. oral, anal, phallic, latency and genital.
              2. Freud thought every person has:
                1. An ID - which makes 'I want' demands.
                  1. An EGO - which tries to resolve conflicts between ID and the Super EGO.
                    1. a SUPEREGO - which represents the demands made by parents and society about how to behave.
                    2. If a person listens to the 'ID' more than the 'SUPEREGO' this means that they are 'EGOCENTRIC.' (Which this means they are self seeking and selfish)
                      1. If a person listens more to the 'SUPEREGO' more than the 'ID' the person is seen as a 'CONFORMIST' (Means that they are self denying)
                        1. When the 'ID' is well balanced with the needs of the 'SUPEREGO' that the person is considered to be a 'well grounded person, who is balanced'
