1. Happens when system is implemented and evaluated

2. Purpose and need

   • A system may not do what its purpose is

3. Three types of maintenance

   • Corrective
     • Fixes anything that isn't operating well
       • Errors found in the system
     • May only come to light by using the system
     • Missed by testing
   • Perfective
     • System running ok
       • However there is room for improvement
     • A part might not work properly
       • Software is altered to improve system
   • Adaptive
     • Adapt to changing needs
       • Parameters change
         • Software then altered
     • E.g. New hardware becomes available
