Macbeth: Plot

1. Act 1

   • Scene 1
     • Witches plan to meet Macbeth
   • Scene 2
     • Duncan is given the details of the recent battle
     • He is told of Macbeth's bravery, and names him Thane of Cawdor
   • Scene 3
     • Macbeth meets the witches
     • They till him that he will be King one day
     • The first part of the prophecy has already come true
   • Scene 6
     • Duncan enters Macbeth's castle and comments on the castle's pleasant environment
   • Scene 5
     • Lady Macbeth plots to influence Macbeth into killing Duncan
   • Scene 4
     • Duncan declares Malcolm is his heir
   • Scene 7
     • Macbeth convinces himself not to kill Duncan
     • Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth of her plan, which makes Macbeth want to kill Duncan again

2. Act 2

   • Scene 1
     • Macbeth meets Banquo, and Macbeth pretends to have not thought about the witches' prophecy
     • Macbeth has a vision of a dagger, but still goes through and murders Duncan
   • Scene 2
     • Macbeth forgot to leave his daggers with the chamberlains, so Lady Macbeth had to do it
     • Macbeth worries about the blood on his hands, but is dismissed by Lady Macbeth
   • Scene 3
     • Porter scene
     • Macduff discovers that the King has been murdered
   • Scene 4
     • Ross and an old man speak about how nature is going crazy
     • Macbeth is made King due to suspicions over Duncan's sons

3. Act 3

   • Scene 1
     • Banquo suspects Macbeth as Duncan's murderer
     • Macbeth speaks about how he will never have heirs
     • Macbeth hires murderers to kill Banquo and Fleance
   • Scene 2
