RAM stands for random access memory.
ROM stands for read only memory.
The purpose of RAM is to store loaded programs and the data programs used.
The purpose of ROM is to store small programs that will never change.
Volatile means that it needs power to run such as a RAM drive.
RAM is volatile.
Non volatile means that it doesn't need power to run.
ROM is non-volatile.
The thing that is stored in the RAM is all the open programs.
The thing stored on the ROM is loaded programs and the data that they use.
You can not change what is stored on the RAM.
You can change what is stored on the ROM.
