  1. Syntax Errors

    • Syntax errors occur when the appropriate symbols and keywords for a particular programing language are not included in the code.
    • Because syntax eroors are dependant on the upon the prgramming language that is being used, the errors are usually mistakes or omissions made by the programmer.
    • Examples
    • Syntax errors can be avoided by physically checking for errors during the coding period.
      • Once the code is complete a Complier can be used to create an executable code and so it can detect any syntax errors then
  2. Logic errors

    • A Logical error is when a program produces an output, but it is incorrect or not as expected.
    • Logical errors are normally caused by mistakes made by a programmer, where an output will be produced but the output is not correct or as expected
    • Logic Error Example
      • A = B - C * D
        • Corrected
          • A = (B - C) * D
            • The Brackets in the corrected version make the difference in the outcome
  3. Test Data

    • Normal Data
      • This is data that has chosen data values that should be representative of normal inputs, but also as simple as possible to allow for hand calculations
    • Extreme Data
      • This data is often termed as boundary data. It will consist of acceptable input data that is on the extreme limits of the acceptable range
    • Erroneous Data
      • This data is data that is outside of the acceptable input range or data that is in an incorrect format to that expected
