User Interfaces
Graphical User Interface
- Easy to use so speeds up the users work and there is no need to learn complicated commands
- Windows normally uses this type of interface
- There are icons and images which you click to go where you want to go
- Takes long to get where you want to go and generally requires more memory than a non-graphical interface. Also, when it is not properly built, it can be very difficult to work with.
Command-line Interface
- Linux and Unix commonly use this type of interface
- Fast and reliable if command typed correctly and capable of more powerful tasks. Also, easier to customise options.
- You type in a command and from there, it directly accesses the page.
- Hard to use for beginners as navigation is often more diffucult. Not enough ability to easily multitask.
Menu driven Interface
- Commonly used on TV's e.g. TV Guides
- Easy to use and you know what you want to do.Also, the user does not need to memorise lots of commands
- Takes some time surfing the menu to find the desired page so it's slow and also the options aren't visual.
- There's a menu and contains list which you find what you want and click to go to the page.
