Software testing
purpose
- The purpose of testing is to check the code for errors, this could save unfortunate things happening such as personal details being lost or stolen
types of testing
- Iterative testing - This is where you gradually test your code as you are creating it, It allows something to improve over time with small steps rather than improving it at the end
- terminal/final testing - The final test is when the product is released and real end users begin using it. Very often, end users find things wrong with systems that the programmers did not expect. Updates are often released for operating systems , applications and games because customers have found software bugs
Types of testdata
- Test data is where you input data to check if you are getting the expected result/outcome.
- In range
- Boundry
- Invalid
Types of errors
- Logic error - Where the program runs, however just not in the way you would expect. For example writing age<16 rather than age<=16
- Syntax error - Where the program doesn't work because of an error in the code, for example a missed speechmark.
- Run time error - An error that will occur whilst the program is running, For example running out of storage
