  1. IDE'S

    • THE TREE
      • Translators
        • Compiler
          • Reads and translates all the code at once then tells you where the problems are, this produces an executable file. Only needed once to create the executable. Once compiled the program runs quickly, but compiling can take a long time.
        • Interpreter
          • Reads and translates the code line by line so if your code is wrong it is either that line or the line above. It is needed everytime you want to run your program. Programs will run more slowly because the code is being translated as the program is running.
        • Assembler
          • They translates assembly language into machine code. Each individual assembly code has its own unique assembler.
      • Run Time Environment
        • It runs and tests your code and it can also help to identify logic errors in the program.
      • Error Dignostics
        • Helps to fix errors in a program and they tell you the location of the error.
      • Editor
        • It allows you to write and edit your code. It colour codes the keywords so they stand out more and sometimes may even autocomplete words as you type.
  2. High level languages

    • Examples are: Python, C++, Java script
    • A language that can only be read by humans so for the computer to understand the language it would have to translate into a low level language. The same code works for many different machines and processors. The programmer can easily store data in lots of different structures.
  3. Low level languages

    • Machine code
      • Uses binary code so the computer can read the code
    • Assembly code
      • Uses mnemonics, harder for humans to read. Is an abbreviation of high level code
    • A language that is only meant to be read by the computer and not by humans. Commands in machine code can be executed directly without the need for a translator.
