2.4 - Computational Logic
Binary
- Has to be a 0 or a 1.
- The use of binary components are easier to manufacture, cheaper and more reliable.
- How it is used
- Capacitators are within RAM.
- Magnets are used in a hard disk.
- DVD-RW reflects otic light rays.
- Solid State Drives use s electron.
Logic Diagrams
- This is a diagram that shows all 3 logic gates in a Logic Diagram.
- They are used to show all possible results of a Boolean algebra statement.
- AND and OR must have 2 inputs.
- NOT only has 1 input.
Logic gates
- Both inputs have to inputs have to be 1 to output 1. Else, output is one.
- Represented with the sign ^.
- If there is one 1/true input, output is 1.
- Represented with the sign V.
- If input is 1, output is 0 and vice versa.
- Represented with the sign ¬ .
- Both inputs have to inputs have to be 1 to output 1. Else, output is one.
Truth Tables
- To work out the number of rows, NUMBER OF ROWS = 2^NUMBER OF INPUTS.
- Truth tables are used to show the steps more explicitly and to allow you to see what is happening in the logic diagram.
