Backup Media

Backup Media

1. Magnetic Tape

   • Is an ideal backup medium
   • It is cheap and has high storage capacity
   • They are removable media which means they can be exchanged with any compatible drive
   • Large organisations use tape libraries for their backups
   • These use lots of tapes and some even use robotic arms to load the tapes into the drives

2. Magnetic Disk

   • Simplest form of magnetic disk backup simply takes the contents of one magnetic dick and copies it onto a different magnetic disk

3. Optical Media

   • This includes media such as CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-RW
   • The main problem with this is that the transfer rate is low which means taking backups takes longer

4. Pen/Flash Drives

   • These are very popular as they are small and portable and are ideal for backing up small amounts of work
   • They are easily lost or stolen.
