1. Afghanistan War

   • WHAT: A war in which the NATO countries invades Afghanistan
   • WHEN: The war started after 9/11 attacks
   • WHO: Canada, U.S., and other NATO countries with the U.S. being the country to start the war
   • WHERE: In Afganistan
   • WHY: Its public aims were to dismantle al-Qaeda and to remove the Taliban from power in Afghanistan
   • HOW did it affect Afghanistan: The war has caused many civilian deaths, but after the war countries like Canada helped restore Afghanistan

2. World War I

   • WHEN: July 28 1914
   • WHAT: a global war that was one of the most deadliest conflicts and resulted in more than16 million deaths
   • WHO: The war grew into a war involving 32 countries with the central powers being Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria.
   • WHERE: The war was centered in Europe
   • WHY: The trigger for this war was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, by Yugoslav nationalist Gavrilo Princip in Sarajevo on June 28 1914
   • HOW did it change nations: The war paved the way for major political changes, including revolutions in many of the nations involved.

3. WW2 D-Day

   • WHEN: June 6 1944
   • WHY: To end four years of brutal German occupation
   • WHAT HAPPENED: Allied forces invaded Western Europe along an 80 kilometer front in Normandy, France
   • WHERE: They assaulted a beachfront code-named “Juno”, while Canadian paratroopers landed east of the assault beaches
   • WHO: The allied forces included U.S., Britain, France, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Yugoslavia
   • HOW did it affect WW2: Forced Germany to retreat and liberated Paris
