DIVISION OF LABOUR

1. some cells produce hormones

   • hormones are chemical messenger molecules
     • they help to coordinate the activities of the whole organism
       • this includes; auxins in plant,insulin and growth in animals
   • plant hormones are usually refered to as plant growth regulators or plant growth substances

2. the instructions to make the hormone are located in the DNA in the nucleus

   • the nucleus copies the instructions in the DNA into mRNA
     • the mRNA then leaves the nucleus through a nuclear pore and attaches to a ribosome(which is attached to the rough endoplasmic reticulum)
       • the ribosome reads the instructions and uses the code to assemble the hormone(protein)
         • the assembled protein inside the rough endoplasmic reticulum is pinched off in a vesicle and transported to the golgi apparatus
           • the golgi apparatus modifies and packages the protein into vesicles so that it is then ready for release
             • it is then moved to the cell surface membrane where it is secreted outside
