1. Atomic number and mass

   • The MASS NUMBER is the total of protons and neutrons
   • If you to work out the amount of protons just take away the ATOMIC NUMBER by the MASS NUMBER
   • The ATOMIC NUMBER is just the number of protons

2. The structure of an atom

   • The ELECTRONS move around the nucleus, they occupy the shells in a 2,8,8 form
     • Electrons have a -1 charge
   • The NUCLEUS is in the middle of the atom, it contains protons and neutrons
     • Neutrons have a 0 charge
     • Protons have a +1 charge
