White Blood Cells (Leucocytes)
1. Colourless, no haemoglobin
2. Irregular in shape, has a nucleus
3. Can move & change its shape
4. Phagocytes
  1. ingest foreign particles like bacteria
  2. lobed nucleus
  3. granular cytoplasm
5. Lymphocytes
  1. large rounded nucleus
  2. small amount of non-granular cytoplasm
  3. limited movements
  4. Produce antibodies
Red Blood Cells (Erythrocytes)
1. Contains Haemoglobin
  1. Iron containing protein
  2. Transport oxygen
2. Circular flattened biconcave disc
  1. increase SA to VR
    1. absorb and release o2 at a faster rate
3. No nucleus
  1. can carry more haemoglobin, more o2
4. Elastic, can turn bell-shaped
  1. squeeze through blood vessels
5. Produced by bone marrow, destroyed in the spleen
  1. Haemoglobin released from destroyed rbcs brought to liver and broken down
Platelets (thrombocytes)
1. membrane bound fragments of cytoplasm
2. takes part in clotting of blood
