  1. 1ST REASON - BELGIUM refused to let German army thru to attack France so had to enter thru force
    1. 2nd REASON - BRITAIN had signed a treaty with Belgium in 1839 to protect it as a NEUTRAL COUNTRY
      1. When Germany refused to withdraw from Belgium Britain declared war
        1. The BEF (British Expeditionary Force) arrived extremely quickly and marksmen slowed Germany down
      2. 3rd REASON - Russia was ready for war QUICKER than Germans expected - took only 10 days
        1. Many Valuable German troops had to march East to face Russians instead of pushing into France
          1. Germany did not take the chance to take Paris instead they decided to to attack east of Paris
            1. Germans were met by French at the BATTLE of the MARNE which halted the GERMAN Advance
              1. German supplies could not keep up with their advance troops
