Erythropoiesis

1. Site of formation

   • Fetus = liver and spleen
   • Last three months in fetal life = bone marrow of all bones of the body until adolescent
   • By the age of 20 = bone marrow of the upper part of the humerus and femur and membranous bones
   • At age 20 = bone marrow of the membranous bones ( vertebra , sternum , ribs )

2. Factors affecting Erythropoiesis

   • Oxygen supply to tissue
     • Decrease
       • stimulating kidney to secrete Erythropoietin
         • Stimulate bone marrow to produce R.B.Cs
           • increase Erythtopoiesis
