CLINICAL TECHNIQUE
1. Mechanical cleansing, isolate and dry the tooth.
2. Etch, rinse, isolate, dry
3. Apply resin, polymerise and check occlusion
EVALUATION
1. Smooth and check occ
2. No air bubbles
3. under/over extensions
THE ACID ETCH TECHNIQUE
1. 30-50% PHOSPHORIC ACID
2. approx 8ym enamel dissolved
3. creates porosities 50ym deep
TYPE 1 ETCH PATTERN
1. Prism core removed, peripheral material left
2. Most common etching pattern
TYPE 2 ETCH PATTERN
1. Prism core remains intact
2. peripheral regions removed
TYPE 3 ETCH PATTERN
1. Haphazard effect
2. Not related to prism morphology
SELF POLYMERISED (SELF CURE)
1. 2 solutions mixed
2. Self setting - limited working time
3. ULTRA VIOLET POLYMERISED
  1. Not so common
4. Longer application time
5. may cause retinal damage
6. WHITE LIGHT POLYMERISED
  1. Longer application time
  2. No retinal damage
COLOURED FS'S
1. Clear - to see underneath
2. Tinted or Opaque - see loss of sealant
FILLED OR NON FILLED
1. Filled with Lithium alumina silicate
2. Increased resistance to abrasion
3. Increased wear on opposing teeth
INDICATIONS FOR USE
1. High caries risk, limited manual dexterity
2. Medically comprimised - physical probs/age
  1. Cardiac probs, immunosuppressed
    1. bleeding disorders, metabolic/endocrine probs
3. Tooth can be isolated
4. Deep Fissures
CONTRAINDICATIONS
1. Poor pt co operation
2. Caries present
3. Previously restored tooth
Should be reviewed 6/12 and take bw's if poss caries
