  1. Verb - actions, events and states
    1. Main - actions, events and states; usually followed by objects
      1. Copular - not followed by objects, by phrases about subject
        1. Auxiliary - come before main verbs
          1. Primary auxiliary verb - most used (be, do, have)
          2. Modal - describe degree of certainty or necessity
            1. Modal verb of necessity - a recommendation
              1. Modal verb of obligation - a demand
                1. Modal verb of possibility - a suggestion
                2. Imperatives - commands
                  1. Finite - definite relation to subject or noun, main verb, only in past/present tense, can indicate active/passive voice and quantity
                    1. Non-finite - no relation to subject or noun, no indication of tense, mood or gender, often act as other classes
                      1. Gerund - verb as noun
                        1. Infinitive - verb with 'to'
                          1. Participle - verb as adjective, -ing or -ed ending
                          2. Dynamic - refers to a physical action or event
                            1. Intransitive verb - can stand alone
                              1. Phrasal verb - an action, event or state expressed in a phrase (informal)
                                1. Progressive verb form - a verb with -ing at the end
                                  1. Transitive verb - requires an object to make sense
                                    1. Simple verb form - a verb by itself
                                      1. Stative verb - refers to a state
                                      2. Noun - Object, Person, Place or Idea
                                        1. Common - everyday, general noun
                                          1. Proper - naming a specific place or thing
                                            1. Concrete - something you can touch or see
                                              1. Abstract - opposite of concrete
                                                1. Countable - with plural
                                                  1. Uncountable - no plural
                                                    1. Regular - add 's' when plural
                                                      1. Irregular - word changes when plural
                                                        1. Collective - includes more than one thing
                                                          1. Compound - multiple nouns in one word
