Multiplying and Dividing by Decimals
Multiplying
- When multiplying a number by 10 you move all the digits in the number 1 place to the left and fill in the gaps with 0s.
- When multiplying a number by 100 you move all the digits 2 places to the left and fill in the gaps with 0s.
- 52 x 100 = 5,200
- 52 x 10 = 520
- When multiplying a number by 100 you move all the digits 2 places to the left and fill in the gaps with 0s.
- Multiplying a number by 0.1 is the same as dividing that number by 10.
- Multiplying a number by 0.01 is the same as dividing that number by 100.
- 52 x 0.01 = 52/100 = 0.52
- 52 x 0.1 = 52/10 = 5.2
- Multiplying a number by 0.01 is the same as dividing that number by 100.
- When multiplying a number by 10 you move all the digits in the number 1 place to the left and fill in the gaps with 0s.
Dividing
- When dividing a number by 10 you move all the digits 1 place to the right and fill in the gaps with 0s.
- When dividing a nimber by 100 you move all the digits 2 places to the right and fill in the gaps with 0s.
- 52/100 = 0.52
- 52/10 = 5.2
- When dividing a nimber by 100 you move all the digits 2 places to the right and fill in the gaps with 0s.
- Dividing a number by 0.1 is the same as multiplying that number by 10.
- Dividing a number by 0.01 is the same as multiplying that number by 100.
- 52/0.01 = 52 x 100 = 5,200
- 52/0.1 = 52 x 10 = 520
- Dividing a number by 0.01 is the same as multiplying that number by 100.
- When dividing a number by 10 you move all the digits 1 place to the right and fill in the gaps with 0s.
