Why is it needed?
- used when there isnt enough space in the ram for all of the programs and data you are currently working on.
How does it work?
- a part of the hard drive is reserved to act as RAM and and when the program is needed it is swapped for something else in the RAM.
- It causes your computer to appear to run slower since access speeds to the hard disk is slower than into the RAM
