    1. These assessments drive the curriculum. They are meaningful task that replicate the real world.
      1. These assessment are not about students just repeating back infomation. They are a demonstration of skills of a students own meaning of the world.
        1. Allows for multiple and varied assessments
          1. Gives student more freedom in how they will demonstrate what they have learned
            1. Is also known as: Performance Assessment, Alternative Assessment, and Direct Assessment
              1. Examples: Posters, Oral Presentations, Videos, Websites, etc...

          1. These assessments are used for placement and instruction of emergent bilingual students based on their skills and abilities.
            1. The Federal Government mandates that ELLs be identified for appropriate services.

              2. These test assess academic and language skills and need to be given in their native language which helps build on prior knowledge. Informal methods or standardized test with consideration of the student's educational background.

                1. These assessments test the effectiveness of instruction.(e.g. quizzes, essays, classwork, etc...)

                      1. These test are used for making decisions about graduation, grade promotion, services programs.

                          1. These test are often hard for Emergent Bilinguals because the cultural content of the test makes it bias.
                            1. Accommodations can be provided to students that qualify. This includes: extra time, instructions read aloud, and small group testing.

                              1. These assessments often have teaching and learning separated from assessment.
                                1. These test are usually multiple-choice, ,matching, fill-in-the blank, short-answer, and true/false
                                  1. Usually take place at the end of a chapter, unit, or course of study
                                    1. Is also known as: Standardized Assessment or Summative Assessment

                                    1. These assessments are performance-based assessments based on what they produce in the classroom.
