Adrenal Glands

1. Location

   • Medical aspect of superior pole of each kidney
   • Separated from kidney by Fatty layer
   • Surrounded by capsule

2. Right Adrenal gland

   • Triangular shaped
   • Contact with: inferior vena cava and liver

3. Left Adrenal Gland

   • Semilunar shaped
   • Contact with: Spleen, Stomach, Pancreas

4. Adrenal Cortex

   • Produce corticosteroids: aldosterone; cortisol;androgens
     • F: help body regulate water levels and metabolism of carbs, prot. and fats.

5. Adrenal Medulla

   • Produce catecholamines: adrenalin; noradrenalin
     • F: initiates body's response to stress

6. Blood Supply

   • Superior suprarenal artery
   • Middle suprarenal artery
   • Inferior suprarenal artery
   • Venous drainage
     • Right suprarenal veins drain into inferior vena cava
     • Left suprarenal veins drain into left renal vein
