1. Diffraction- waves spreading out

   • All waves spread out at the edges when they pass through a gap or pass an obstacle
     • The narrower the gap the more the waves spread out.
       • The wider the gap the less the waves spread out.
   • Radio waves and hills:
     • The waves are so large that when they come into contact with hills, they may not defract fully which is why signal levels can be so poor
