Box Plots

  1. Another way of displaying data for comparison is by means of a box-and-whisker plot (or just a box plot)

  2. Box plots can be used to show the spread of two or more sets of data and make it easier to compare data

  3. A box plot requires five pieces of data

    • The lowest value of the set of data
    • The lower quartile of the set of data
    • The median of the set of data
    • The upper quartiles of the set of data
    • The highest value of the set of data
  4. REMEMBER - Box plots are always plotted against a scale so that their values can be accurately read and plotted
