Sind and Baluchistan voted (Majorities
for Pakistan) as well as the north west
frontier
punjab+bengal-muslim reps voted for
undivided provinces to be part of pakistan,
whereas hindu and sikhs wanted provinces
to be divided between pakistan and india.

as of this independence act passed on july 4th just after
provincial decisions had been made. passed by house of
commons with no changes and was law in mid july this
rush shows how much the british wanted out

indian civil service
initially council was patel and
prasad(congress) with khan and nishtar
(ml) but replaced by jinnah soon after
as it was seen as priority
july 19th interim govt. split in 2 giving them each
state. congress still said pakistan opted out so
should be allowed nothing, congress then
ejected all staff who chose pakistan.
pakistan planning was happening in tents with hardly any equipment,
because of this khan wanted date for partition moved forward
4th issue
pakistan+india planned to part of common wealth of britian they
had to keep british monarchy as head of state, but also a brit
governor general which mountbatten thought he'd get. jinnah got
to support india or he had to resign
5th issue-borders
sir cyrill radcliffe had 36 days to make borders
and decisions based on stats not political
reasons had to split bengal and punjab.
jinnah thought pakistan was 1 state not
2 seperate ones, and congress thought
pakistan wouldnt last long and re-join
soon
