2. Managing Resources and Providing User Interface

   • An operating system is software that manages a computer system. The operating system is loaded by the bootstrap loader. One of its primary functions is to manage resources. Here are some examples of how the operating system manages the computer systems resources:
   • Managing printing using spooling
     • Sending instructions to print images
   • File Compression
     • Also may manage filing systems with logical directories
     • Also manages backing storage
   • Providing User-Interface
     • Usually a non commandline system. GUI -Graphical user interface
   • Managing hardware and periphirals such as Input/output devices
     • Managing data communications between them
