          1. This 'era' has emerged due to: the rise in IT and the media- our lives are now dominated by images from the TV / Consumer culture- we construct our identities through the range of signifiers available to us through capitalism
            1. Our lives have become commoditised- we define ourselves by what we buy

            1. Lack of faith in 'Grand Stories' or Metanarratives
              1. Argues we no longer believe in metanarratives
                1. Begins by arguing modernism was characterised by a faith in metanarrtives of progress
                2. Collapse of unified way of thinking and the move towards moral relativism
                  1. Moral relativism= we each have an individualised way of thinking- we create our own realities

                      1. Parody- an imitation which mocks the original- has a comment/meaning behind it
                        1. Pastiche- imitation of style without comment- 'blank parody'
                          1. Historicism- reworking things from the past in order for businesses to make profit as they know that style has worked/ sold before
