Chemical bonding involes either transferring or sharing elctrons in the outer shells of atoms.
Atoms that lose electrons become positvely charged ions. Atoms that gian elcetrons become negativly charged ions.
When atoms share pairs of electrons, they form covalent bonds.
Ionic compounds are held together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction.
