Each Field has a data Type: Numeric Data -takes on a numeric value and can be used in calculations. Text- data can be made up of letters or letters and numbers. Date- data takes on a value which is formatted as a date.Boolean- data can take only two values, normally yes and no.
Tables- are made up of records and each record and each recored is made of a set of Fields in a file or table, a row usually represents a record and a set of field values are contained in a column.
- A RECORD is a unit of data that is made up of a number of fields. There is one record per item in a database table.
Key Field- a relational a database allows the user to set a key field for each table. The key field is a value that uniquely identifies a record in the table.
- Formatting Fields- A way of controlling the way in which data is to be held in a database is to use some of the data formatting tools when designing a table. For example: a date can be sorted in a number of formats e.g. Medium Date 24-May-11 or short data 24/05/11
- An Input mask defines the format of the data being entered. Microsoft Access has some readymade input masks available. when developing a solution you can create your own input masks.

Validation ensures that data is present, in the correct range and in the correct format. Most database packages provide a feature that allows you to enter validation rules for data. You can include different validation checks before data is entered into a table.
