made poor decisions and was highly indecisive
Marie Antoinette was used a s a scapegoat
spent a lot of France's money on jewels and gambling
Amount Marie supposedly spent wasn't in reality that much and was only a small contribution to the financial crisis
louis was head of the government he served as 'absolute ruler'
Louis was able to pass new laws through the system lit de justice
Louis's decisicion was final and he was able to arrest anyone he wanted
Financial and Economic Crisis
France was on the verge of bankruptcy
1066 million livers spent on Wars
In 1788, 318 million livers spent on debt interest
16th August 1788 France declared bankrupt
Calonne wanted to reform the system -the notables did not support him -King dismissed Calonne due to lack of strength -Expels Paris Parlement
Necker recalled and he abandoned reform plans to raise loans
atempts to introduce reform but the estates General were fought
food shortage led to riots
high unemployment

Eden treaty
set up trade between Britain and France but in turn seriously damaged the French economy.

food shortages and unemployment made the situation hostile
Marie Antoinette ignorant towards the situation
Privileged Classes
unfair taxation on the poor
Privilege meant the rich were exempt from taxation increasing financial problems
The Church was extremely rich and also didn't pay
Enlightened Nobles were pro-revolution
Clashes between that King and Parlement
3rd estate highly against government and ancient regime
The Bourgeoisie
More were getting rich
Fustrated at social inequality and being taxed more than others
Highly resentful towards te king and crown
