General Problem Solver
See's the world as a state space
- Achieves goals by using operators
One of the first algorithms for solving problems
- Can become extremely complex
- Didn't live up to its expectations
Uses means end reasoning
- This means applying rules until you get to the finish
- Example: car needs fixing and kid needs to go school
- Current state: car_is_broken, kid_at_home
- Go to garage, get car fixed
- State: car_is_fixed, kid_at_home
- if [child_at_home, car_works] then add child_at_school
- remove child_at_home
- goal complete
- remove child_at_home
- if [child_at_home, car_works] then add child_at_school
- State: car_is_fixed, kid_at_home
- Go to garage, get car fixed
- Current state: car_is_broken, kid_at_home
- Example: car needs fixing and kid needs to go school
- This means applying rules until you get to the finish
When it does an action:
- Checks its preconditions
- Adds states
- Removes states
- Adds states
- Repeats this until the goal has been achieved
- Checks its preconditions
The two main attempts of contemporary based agents?
- agents which imply BDI methods
- SOAR
- agents which imply BDI methods
