1 REGARDED AS BEING ANTI FEMINIST
1.1 security for women wld come via marriage and dependants benefits. Beveridge felt these shld be shared equally. No legal intervention making this happen
2 Welfare state built on premice that men and women would get married and stay married, with women being SAHM
2.1 If marriage ends women are unable to recieve benefits if haven't contributed to N.I
2.1.1 Social changes following Beveridge saw increased divorce rates, increase in single parents. They could only recieve the means tested Nat Ass.
3 women had to give up paid work taken on during the war years for men coming home from war. Often this work was enjoyed
3.1 Assumed in peace time they would revert to traditional roles
4 Idea that womens work was unpaid was implicit and they were often carers for family members. Unpaid wrk meant no contributions which inturn meant no social insurance
5 Failed to allow for changing role of women in society which gained momentum in 60's & 70's
