RAM:
andom Access Memory
Volatile (data and information is lost when the power is lost)
Latency is the time it takes for the data to be stored and read from RAM
Static RAM:
retains data bits in memory as long as there is power
Dynamic RAM:
consists of a capacitor and a transistor, which requires periodic refresh
ROM:
cannot be altered or reprogrammed
holds the bootstrap
contains booting hardware-like BIOS and hardware checks
ROM is non-volatile-the data is still there even when the power is lost
Types of ROM:
PROM: programmable ROM
EPROM: erasable programmable ROM
EEPROM: electronically erasable programmable ROM
Virtual memory:
takes longer to retrieve data from virtual memory
combining physical storage devices into a virtual storage device
it's slower
can be increased or decreased-accordingly
