Elizabeth ruled the country fairly successfully during her reign.

She ruled nationally through the Privy Council, Royal Court and leading ministers. Members of the Privy Council were noblemen, such as William Cecil. Locally, she ruled through J.P's who would enforce laws in their area. J.P's were hired by Lord Lieutenants and their job included stopping crime and controlling the wealthy to stop them from becoming too powerful and starting a rebellion against the Queen.

Parliament usually met when Elizabeth requested it. This was usually when she needed money because Parliament was needed to pass new taxes and laws. She was able to control Parliament for much of the time. Elizabeth had a long and peaceful and during this time she was always successful in ruling peacefully and avoiding foreign threats.
