What is dissolving?

When you add sugar to water, it seems to disappear but in fact, the sugar has dissolved.

The particles of a solid that dissolved are too small to see in the water any not heavy enough to sink to the bottom.

If the particles of the solid are coloured, then the water becomes the colour of the solid.
