A scientist noticed that at one time the continents looked as if they could fit together in a single landmass called Pangea. When continents merged their edges crumbled and formed mountains. Scientists discovered that in oceans there were valley-like things called trenches and mountains called ridges. Almost all earthquakes occur around the plate boundaries.

Vocabulary Words Pangea - when the continents were merged together. This was called Pangea. Continental drift - this is a theory that the continents have moved apart from each other.
