Conception and initiation:
The initial ideas for a project are identified and goals are set
It is then decided whether or not it is appropriate to undertake the project by conducting a feasibility study
the study will show whether the project is beneficial to the organisation based on resources, time and finance.
Finally, the requirements of the project are identified so that the stakeholders are aware of the expectations

Planning:
The project must be well planned so that all stakeholders know their responsibilities during all stages of the project.
Then, a comprehensive budget will be formulated
and milestones will be set by which time certain aspects of the project must be complete.

Execution:
Once all plans are in place, the project can commence at the start date.
It is critical that the plan is followed so that resources are used at appropriate times.
The project manager will communicate the roles and responsibilities to the team members
and set interim targets for each member to achieve within the timescale of the overall plan.

Monitoring and control:
During this stage, the project manager monitors the progress, controls what's happening, and ensures that tasks are completed on time and rescheduled if any tasks are delayed.
The project manager must also monitor the expenditure and ensure that overspends don't occur.
Project review meetings must be held regularly for key stakeholders to discuss progress.
At times where the project plan will need to be adjusted, there will be iteration between execution, monitoring and control, and planning.

Closure:
When the project is complete, a handover will take place from the project team to the client.
Contracts will then be terminated, which means some people may need to be deployed elsewhere.
