TRANSFORMATIONS

TRANSLATIONS

In a translation, the amount the shape moves by is given as a vector (horizontal on the top, up and down on the bottom, minus numbers are left and down)

ROTATIONS

To describe a rotation you must give three details:

The angle of rotation, the direction of rotation and the centre of rotation.

REFLECTION

For a refection, you must give the equation of the mirror line.

ENLARGEMENTS

For an enlargement you must specify:

the scale factor and the centre of enlargement

scale factor = new length / old length

SCALE FACTORS

If the scale factor is bigger than one the shape gets bigger.

If the scale factor is smaller than one it gets smaller.

If the scale factor is negative then the shape pops out the other side of the enlargement centre.

The scale factor also tells you the relative distance of old and new points from the centre of enlargement.
